Shane spent the final years of his career coaching and playing in Japan. He now has a career in broadcasting as a pundit covering the 6 Nations Championship for the BBC and the Rugby World Cup for ITV.
Shane has recently returned from Japan where he presented/reported on the 2019 Rugby World Cup. He is very much in demand as an after dinner speaker and host.
On the 9th December, 2019 in an interview for South Wales Evening Post, Warren Gatland said that Shane Williams was the best player he had ever coached. During the 12 successful years that saw Wales win three grand slams, a further Six Nations title and reach the Rugby World Cup semi-finals twice, he turned his players into some of the best in the world.
He said ‘one man stood out – his feet moved at incomprehensible speed, as if by magic. In the blink of an eye, he would be gone from the spot where he once stood. Pound for pound, the best player I’ve ever coached is Shane Williams. It was just how strong he was, his footwork, his speed, the tries he scored. He was also a massive crowd favourite’.
