Derek Brockway is Welsh born and bred and his interest in the weather began as a young boy. When he left school he joined the Met Office, based mainly at Cardiff Weather Centre but with spells observing the weather at Cardiff Airport, Birmingham Airport and eight months in the Falkland Islands. When he qualified as a forecaster he was posted to Birmingham Weather Centre, broadcasting on several BBC Radio stations across the Midlands.

He then moved to London to work in the world of television preparing the ITV National Weather and Channel 4 weather. He has also broadcast on GMTV's 'The Sunday Programme'. Derek took a position at the Met Office headquarters in Bracknell as an Environmental Consultant. He returned home to Wales in 1997 and joined BBC 'Wales Today' where he has been the lead weather forecaster ever since. As well as broadcasting the lunchtime, evening and late TV weather forecast, Derek also presents regular weather bulletins on BBC Radio Wales.

Derek Brockway has had a lifetime fascination with the weather and has presented a TV show ('Derek's Welsh Weather') and radio show ('Derek's Lightning Guide to Weather') on the subject. A keen walker, Derek has also has an on-going exceptionally popular series on BBC Wales entitled 'Weatherman Walking'. He has also had very many appearances and series on BBC tv too numerous to mention, including Gavin and Stacey. He was also mentioned in the Sunday Times newspaper for his unique style presenting the weather. He has added yet another string to his bow with the publication of several books and an Autobiography entitled 'Whatever the Weather'. He also wrote a children’s book.

Derek Brockway is particularly adept at interacting with the public and has a huge following of fans. As a measure of this modest man, He still finds it difficult to comprehend the way his popularity has grown beyond recognition over the last few years.

Derek Brockway  is in great demand as an 'after dinner speaker'; 'environmental speaker'; 'host'; 'compere' and general 'personality'. Wherever Derek appears his friendly, natural personality makes him a big hit with the young and old alike
