Professor Laura McAllister is a leading authority on devolution, Welsh politics, elections, and gender representation, bringing a unique blend of academic insight and real-world experience to the stage. As Professor of Public Policy and the Governance of Wales at Cardiff University's Wales Governance Centre, Laura is a respected commentator and the author of numerous influential books and papers.
A recognised thought leader, Laura has been at the forefront of shaping political landscapes through her roles on the Richard Commission on Powers and Electoral Arrangements for the National Assembly for Wales (2002-04), the Independent Panel on AMs Pay and Support (2008-09), and as Chair of the Assembly's Expert Panel on Electoral Reform (2017). She also co-chaired the Independent Commission on the Constitutional Future of Wales (2021-24), providing strategic direction on the future of Welsh governance.
Her leadership extends beyond academia and politics into the world of sport, where she was a former Wales international footballer and national team captain, earning 24 caps. Laura's passion for sports governance saw her excel as Chair of Sport Wales (2010-16), and she continues to make an impact on the global stage as a UEFA Vice-President, Chair of UEFA’s Social and Environmental Sustainability Committee, and Deputy Chair of UEFA’s Women’s Football Committee.
Laura’s influence has been recognised with Honorary Degrees and Fellowships from leading Welsh universities, a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours (2016), and induction into Gorsedd y Beirdd at the National Eisteddfod of Wales (2023).
